Light Bulbs

LED Light Bulbs

Did you know that one LED light bulb can save as much as 5X the amount of energy as one filament type bulb? The watts used are significantly lower and LED bulbs pull significantly less amperage.

Cleaning the Filters

Changing Air Filters Regularly

Changing cooling and heating air filters regularly can improve efficiency and allows for your cooling and heating system to work easier.  When your system works easier and turns on less, it lowers your electricity bill.

Fact:  The cooling and heating system in a home is the #1 source of electrical consumption in most homes.

Air Flow

Opening a window or turning on a fan is a great way to cool down.  On cooler days don't be afraid to let your hair blow in the breeze. Believe it or not, when the temperature outside is cooler than inside, your cooling system works extra hard to suck out excess humidity.  Turn the cooling system off and open those windows to enjoy mother nature's way of saving you energy.

On Demand (Tankless) Water Heaters

Running out of hot water may seem like a huge problem, but the cost of a tankless water heater can be a double edged sword.  The installation cost can sometimes exceed $4,000 USD, and electric tankless water heaters can actually raise your bill!  They require huge amounts of amperage to operate and if your breaker panel isn't fitted with multiple bus bars, the cost can be tremendous for an electrical service upgrade.  Sometimes replacing your old water heater with a more efficient tank type can save you as much as 3X the energy used over the course of a year!  Do the math first before making this choice.

Unplug Those Power Cords!

Computer / tablet power cords & mobile phone chargers are always running even when not in use.  These types of cords have micro transformers built in that step down amperage and voltage to the amount needed to charge your device.  When not in use they are still providing that function, but for no end.  Unplug them when not in use to save watts on your next energy bill.  A little bit goes a long way!

House with Red Door

Windows and Doors

Older homes were built with windows and doors (builder grade) that have sub-standard specifications compared with today.  Single pane windows allow up to 80% more UV light in, over 60% more heating and cooling loss, and lose their water tight integrity very fast.  Newer windows are double and even triple paned and filled with argon gas to block UV light and keep your heat and cool air in, and the outside out.  Older doors need to have the seals checked every year, and be resealed around the edges at least once every five years for maximum sealing efficiency.
